John Belushi as Joe Cocker
Season 1, Episodes 3, 18 & 20
Season 2, Episode 3
Season 2, Episode 3
In lieu of a musical guest in an early season one episode, John Belushi portrayed musician Joe Cocker, a role he would reprise several times throughout the season and once in the following season, accompanying the musical guest.
If Cocker's appearance alongside Belushi's impression when he served as a musical guest in season two wasn't enough to show Cocker had no hard feelings, he admitted in a 2012 interview that he "always found it quite amusing" but had only learned of the impression after a friend had told him, "There's this guy doing an awful impersonation of you. Sue him." Cocker didn't take the advice however, instead believing Belushi "did quite a clever job with it". In fact, the impression was so popular that Paul McCartney reportedly invited Belushi to perform as Cocker at his birthday party. Joe Cocker would return to SNL again, as a musical guest, in season eight. |
